  Hypnosis Demystified

Hypnosis isn't mysterious, mystical or magical.

It isn't about superpowers, gullibility, or mind control.

It's a natural state of focused awareness that allows us to access

the resources of our subconscious mind for learning and change.

What happens during a session?

The first half of the session is dedicated to evaluating the progress made since the last session, and discussing further therapeutic tools and remedies. The second half of the session is the hypnotic induction. Clients will recieve an MP3 recording of the hypnosis to listen to at home for reinforcement.

How long does a session last?

Plan to set aside 90 minutes for the first session, then 60 minutes for the following sessions.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people find it to be very relaxing and soothing. It's the part of the session clients look forward to the most.

What if I can't be hypnotised?

Although it is true that some people are more easily induced than others, we are all able to reach a level of hypnotic trance sufficient for clinical change work. Furthermore, hypnotizability is a skill that has compounding effects. It usually gets easier and faster with every session.

What is a hypnotic trance?

Trance means mindful focused attention on the task at hand, to the exclusion of what else is going on in our surroundings. That does not mean loss of awareness of the surroundings. It just means that, for the length of the trance, we don't get distracted by exterior stimuli. (Similar to being engrossed in a good movie, or a great book.)

Will I spill my innermost secrets?

No. You will always be in control. And typically, after induction, it's the hypnotherapist who does all the talking. The client just relaxes. Even in those rare instances where you would agree to use a technique that would require you to communicate with the therapist while in trance, your conscious mind would censure what you are not willing to reveal.

Will I remember what happened?

Mostly yes. You're mind might drift, and that's okay, because your subconscious will hear it all. You also will be listening to the recorded version of the session at home for reinforcement.

Is it safe?

Yes, it's completely safe. And unlike medication, it’s entirely natural, with no negative side-effects.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on two things: The nature of the presenting problem AND compliance with the treatment protocol. Most stress and anxiety clients benefit greatly from just 6 to 8 sessions. Smoking cessation is a 3 session package. Weight loss depends on the amount of weight to lose, which is most often directly related to how deep rooted the issues are. In any case, compliance with listening to the recordings and using the additional tools learned during the sessions will produce the quickest and most powerful results.

What is the success rate?

That depends alot on you! If you are ready to make a change, and sincerely want to be helped, then you can expect excellent results.
